Abstract

The article addresses the Geopolitics of Mozambique, where it seeks to analyze the conditions for strengthening and affirming a maritime power in the African sub-regional context. To materialize this scientific aim, a qualitative approach was used, using bibliographical and documentary research techniques and semi-structured interviews. The collected content was analyzed using the content analysis technique. The study understands that Mozambique is a privileged country due to its geopolitical position, based on its geographical location, located on the edge of the Indian Ocean, where its routes are adapted according to the location of the States in the international system, a fact that differentiates with other neighboring countries and the region. The insufficiency of forces and means to guarantee maritime security at national level, the lack of trained individuals to maintain the maintenance of existing means, leads the country to vulnerability and threatens territorial sovereignty due to the fact that the country has several desirable resources at the level international border and its coast with deep waters, from where it is sometimes seen as a drug trafficking corridor. Furthermore, for Mozambique to establish itself as a maritime power in the African sub-regional context, it must have the capacity to employ naval military means, such as elements of force, security and projection, to exercise control of its coast. It needs to be economically stable, as well as having the ability to influence regional diplomacy. Likewise, prioritize the existence of trained individuals with technical and scientific competence in order to assess maritime threats and establish a strategic concept of territorial Defense and Security.
