Challenges in managing road transport and urban mobility: the case of the “maputo metropolis”

Abstract

The cities of Matola and Maputo, like most African cities, which together constitute a conurbation, this is, a "metropolitan area" suffer a terrible resulting mobility problem the fact that the roads are devoid of elasticity, the area studied have a grid plan, the traffic management plan will not be integrated nonexistence agency where all the institutions responsible for traffic management should be accountable and non-existence of a technology that in combined action accompany the growth of the vehicle fleet. The main objective of this study is to analyze the determinants of the congestion problem and parking in the "metropolitan area of Maputo." To achieve the objective set were used the literature review and statistical methods and allowed to reach the following key findings: non-use of previous studies in Mozambique by the municipal authorities; failure to establish twinning between the Mozambican cities and cities in other countries to exchange and share experiences in the field of smart cities, most toll users do not use smart payment and most studies that have been done are qualitative what makes it imperative to do quantitative studies.
