Scientometric analysis of the scientific production of the Pedagogical University published in Scopus in 1997-2019

This study performs a scientometric analysis of the scientific production of the Pedagogical University published in Scopus in 1997-2019. A total of 180 articles published by 936 authors were retrieved from Scopus. By applying filters in Excel and removing duplicate names, it was found that there were 490 authors of the 180 articles. These articles were published in 122 journals indexed in Scopus, covering four areas, namely, Culture, Society and Education; Natural Resources and Environment; Health; Engineering and Technological Innovation. The productivity of the 490 authors was assessed by Lotka's law followed by the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test. The elite of authors in each area was calculated by Price's law, but adjusted by the author selection criterion presented by this study. Bradford's law was used to assess the productivity of the 122 journals. The results show that 69% of the elite researchers at the Pedagogical University occupied an intermediate position in the co-authorship lists, which reveals that these elites were not the most renowned authors of the research projects in which they participated. The most productive area was Culture, Society and Education with 62 (35%) publications. The most cited articles were in the area of Natural Resources and Environment with 1204 (35%) citations received. The Journal of Physical Activity and Health, Bioresource Technology and Hypertension were the journals that published the most cited articles, which received, cumulatively, 959 (27.9%) citations in 1997-2019, with 2016 being the year of greatest scientific visibility of the Pedagogical University with 713 (20.7%) citations received.
