Abstract

This study aims to analyze the financial sustainability of African public hospitals, based on a methodological approach that combines literature review with a bibliometric analysis of recent scientific production. The research allowed the identification of the main theoretical and practical approaches adopted in different African contexts, highlighting critical factors such as financing models, hospital management strategies, public-private partnerships and institutional capacity-building. The results reveal that strategic planning, when adapted to local realities and supported by performance indicators, is an essential tool to ensure economic viability and the strengthening of public health systems. The bibliometric analysis showed a growing attention of the scientific community to the subject, but also the existence of gaps with regard to longitudinal evaluation and the practical application of sustainable management models. The study concludes with recommendations for future research and for the adoption of more effective, integrated and sustainability-oriented management practices.
